This week felt like I was walking through funhouse mirrors.
I know… it’s weird AF to me too.
It started out solid, just me working on a new program I’m re-releasing soon that’s literally the full blueprint of my entire business.
I’ve never pulled back the curtain and shared this level of detail before so I’m both nervous and excited.
Which meant, I needed some time to reconnect with Zak and feel grounded.
So, we went to one of our favorite sushi restaurants and had such a nice time.
Excepttttt when we left, we realized the valet had crashed the car into a curb, popped a tire, and scratched two rims.
Yeah, good times.
So, I ended up going home in a Lyft and Zak stayed until roadside assistance came.
I love you, Zak andddd bye.
Then, I woke up the next morning feeling a tickle in the back of my throat and just overall exhausted.
Mind you, I just got over a respiratory thing a week or so ago so I was not happy.
Anyway… Friday was fun because I picked Rain and her friends up from school to drop them at the mall for some girl time and Zak and I headed to dinner to wait for them – and no, we did not valet.
Saturday, I took some much me needed time to recover and enjoyed a nap with the kitties (who are getting so big!).
Today I’m feeling better. We have a dinner with friends tonight that I’m looking forward to (and nope, prob still won’t valet. Fool me once…)
The nice thing about this wild week is that I still focused on the things that were most important to me – my family and my health.
Which is what got me to thinking about what I want to share with you today.
It started when I was coaching a new VIP Client… read on to see what happened!
Cynthia
How I Balance Motherhood, Building an Empire, and Living Rich as Fuck
Last week, I was coaching a new VIP Client and she said to me…
“You know, Cynthia. I can’t build a wildly successful business like most women you coach. I have kids.”
So I waited for her to continue but that was it.
Now, I get it. For too long, we’ve decided that we can have / do one thing or the other but not ALL the things.
But I don’t buy into that.
The idea that you have to choose between being an iconic business owner and a present, loving parent is complete bullshit.
I’m here to tell you—you can have both.
You can build your empire, raise your family, and still have time for a glass of wine in your luxe robe at the end of the day.
I know because I do it. And I’m not alone.
But first, we need to address the elephant in the room.
Too many parents use their kids as an excuse for not going after their goals.
You’ve heard it—or maybe you’ve even said it yourself: “I would, but I have kids” or “I can’t take the time to do that because I’m a parent.”
The truth is…I’ve said it too.
When Rain was little, I found myself feeling overwhelmed.
I felt guilty when I was building my business and not with her and I felt guilty when I was doing the opposite.
I couldn’t win.
But when her dad and I got divorced, I was forced to figure it out.
The old stories in my head kept playing back but this time, instead of listening, I decided to rewrite them.
I decided (because you’re allowed to do that) that I would create a life where my daughter and my very successful business co-existed in peace and harmony.
I also realized a very important lesson…
Your kids shouldn’t be your excuse; they should be your why.
Don’t Use Your Kids as an Excuse
Look… I get it—parenting is no joke.
There’s homework, bedtime routines, sleepovers, birthday parties (So. Many. Birthday parties.), and everything in between.
But here’s the truth I learned: using my kid as a reason to play small wasn’t serving anyone.
Not me, not her.
She was watching me.
She was noticing how I show up. How I chase my dreams. How I handled hard shit.
And I realized this was a beautiful opportunity to set an example.
I had to ask mySELF…
Do you want her to grow up thinking it’s okay to settle because “life got busy”?
OR… My mom couldn’t do the things she wanted because of me.
OR… do I want her to see that it’s possible to go after everything you want while still showing up for the people you love the most?
The decision was easy.
Involve Your Kids in Your Journey
What I’ve learned is that building your empire doesn’t mean you have to separate your work life from your family life entirely.
You can include your kids in the things you’re doing to become SELF Made.
Here’s how I did it:
- I Let Her See Me Dream Big
I share my goals with Rain. I tell her what I’m working on and why it matters. This not only makes her feel included but it also teaches her the importance of ambition and resilience.
- I Made Her Part of the Process
If I was creating something—like a course, a business plan, or even social media content— I asked for their input. Kids are creative as fuck, and their ideas might surprise you!
- I Turned It Into a Lesson
For example, when I’m mapping out my business goals, I’ll explain how I’m making decisions. I’ll say things like, “I’m investing in this because it’s going to grow my business and give us more time to take vacations together.” She loves that. J And, I make sure that happens.
- We Celebrate Wins Together
When I hit a milestone, we make it a family celebration. I do this to show her that hard work pays off and that success is something to be proud of.
Prioritize What Actually Matters
Another thing that I realized back in the day was my priorities were skewed so far left it wasn’t even funny.
So, I took a close look at my priorities. I wrote them down so they were clear.
For me, it’s simple: My daughter comes first. Always.
When she needs me, I am there.
I take her to school every day and I pick her up (one of my favorite things).
We enjoy girl’s days, family game nights, and more so I make sure she knows she matters to me.
When I’m with her, I’m with her—fully present.
And when I’m working, I’m fully in boss mode. I don’t half-ass either role.
When you ask yourself what truly matters to you, what the non-negotiables are in your life, everything else gets filtered through that lens.
Delegate Like a Boss
If you’re trying to do it all yourself, stop. Now is good.
You’re not superhuman, and you don’t have to be.
The richest, most successful people in the world delegate like their lives depend on it—because they know their time is the most valuable thing they have.
I delegate everything that doesn’t require my magic.
Grocery shopping? Delivered.
Business tasks that someone else can handle? Outsourced.
Because the more I delegate, the more I can focus on what only I can do: being the CEO of my life and my business.
I started simple and you can too. I made a list of the things I did every week and circled the ones that absolutely needed me. Everything else? I delegated over time.
Create Space for YOU (Yes, It’s Non-Negotiable)
Now, in all my “I’m going to show up for my kid AND my business no matter what” I forgot about something… ME!
Here’s the part people don’t talk about:
You need time for YOU.
Whether it’s a skincare ritual, a slow morning, or a quiet moment with a glass of champagne, you deserve space to recharge.
I decided to care out moments that left me feeling grounded, powerful, and unbothered.
And the best part… Rain saw that too.
And now? This girl loves her me time!
I created a monster. 😉
So… the takeaway here (cause you know I have one) is this…
You don’t have to choose between being a great parent and building your empire.
You can do both and can have it all.
But having it all doesn’t mean doing it all.
Set boundaries.
Delegate.
Involve your kids.
Embrace imperfection.
And above all, be an example of what’s possible to your kiddos.
It just might be the most important thing they learn from you.
