This Is Why Your Brain Health Is So Important…

Hello, hello, hello CGC!

I’ve been in chilly Portland that past few days but before I left LA, I got some R&R lying by the pool and reading Valley of The Dolls (my team’s Book Club pick this month). It was heaven. ✨

I shared on social that I’ve been reading more physical books lately.

Books are my everything! I could live in a bookstore, and you better bet your sweet face that if books were edible, they would be my diet of choice.

I know, I’m a weirdo. #judgeme

The big reason I turned back to physical books is I’m trying to reduce my screen time and improve my brain health.

According to Harvard Medical School, our digital devices can interfere with everything from our sleep to our creativity.

And I can’t have that.

I have shit to do, people to serve (like YOU), and an amazing life to build!

Which means my BRAIN needs to be on point.

Listen… if your brain 🧠 is a hot mess, your life will be a hot mess. And I know you don’t want that.

ANDDDD… full disclosure…

My dad was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago and seeing him struggle with his brain, memories, and cognitive functions has been a huge wakeup call for me.

It’s also been heartbreaking to watch and as a parent myself, I can’t imagine my Rainy going through this.

Maybe I’ll share more about it another time.

For now….

Here are the latest ways I’ve been focused on becoming SELF Made, Brain Edition:

1. No screens at least an hour before bed.
2. Stretching before bed.
3. Reading physical books instead of digital ones.
4. Taking supplements. (See my Brain Health Kit below!)
5. No alcohol. Mocktails are my life now, send recipes!
6. Red light before bed.
7. Eating more omega-3 fatty acids (olive oil, fish, etc.)
8. Eating a clean and nutrient-rich diet in general.
9. Minimum of 30 minutes of movement every day, no matter what.
10. Sleeping on my side.
11. Getting more mental stimulation through true crime games. (My fave below!)

Today, I invite you to take a look at your own brain health.

How can you take action now so you make sure you stay sharp, feel those loving emotions, and cherish memories of those closest to you?

Pick ONE thing and make a plan to do it consistently this week.


Call me crazy but I believe that changing your life (and your brain health) should be FUN!

I’m a huge fan of true crime and mysteries so lately I’ve been enjoying escape rooms, puzzles, and mystery games to strengthen my memory, boost my mood, and make me more productive.

Zak and I are obsessed with Hunt a Killer & Agatha Christie’s The Mystery of Hunter’s Lodge. We turn on a rainy playlist, dim the lights, light a fire, make our fave mocktails and get to it! It’s stupid fun!

I tend to take on a lot of things. All at once. Can you relate?

That’s not always a good thing. In fact, it rarely is. It has led to me feeling overwhelmed and I’ve burnt out in the past from doing it.

So, my secret is… simplifying. I shared a bit about this in last week’s newsletter and I’m doubling down even more!

My motto right now is “simplify to multiply”.

I’ve taken a hard look at my life and my business. I’ve got clear on the 20% of the effort that creates the 80% of the results.

And I’m going all in on that.

This has made a HUGE difference in my brain (and body) not feeling overwhelmed and I’m much more productive and joyous! I have more free time for family and friends and I’m loving my life!

So, whatever you’re working on right now… whether it’s building your coaching business, working your side hustle, or something else, take some time today to make a list.

Write down everything you’re doing for your business, side hustle, etc.

Then circle the 20% of those things that creates 80% of the results (money, time freed up, fulfillment, etc.).

Finally, ditch the 80% and only focus on the 20%. This will radically shift your focus, health, and finances. Trust me.
